Wrapping it
Up!
Whew!
You did it!! Congratulations!!
To make
your experience as a Leader a FUN and successful experience, please
remember:
-
Use all
the resources available to you. Leader meetings, the web,
manuals/books, YahooGroup, etc.
-
As long as Safety-Wise and GS policies are adhered to, there really isn't
just one way to do things. Find your own voice, your own style.
Find what works for your Troop.
-
Never be afraid to ask a question! Other Leaders, your Service Team
and your Council are here to help. There is no such thing as a
stupid question, ok??
-
Get in the "Let's look in the book" habit.
The Handbooks, the Leader's Guide, Badge books,
Safety-Wise, and other Girl Scout guides and pamphlets are like an
encyclopedia. When a question arises, you say "Let's look it up!"
*
-
Laugh as much as possible! The sky will not fall if, now and then, a
meeting sounds and looks like the fun house at an amusement park.
Sometimes the girls need to blow off steam.*
-
Try to foster an environment where Troop
members feel the freedom and safety to try new things. Your
goal should be a place where girls can see "failure" as nothing more than,
"gee, that didn't work...I wonder what would"? That goes for both
you and the girls. In a safe place we all learn from what
doesn't work - almost more than from what does!
Again, thank you for volunteering your time to the girls in our
Neighborhood. You will make such a difference!
