Ice Cream in a Can
Here is a fun Girl Scout snack recipe from Lauria M.

Purpose: To observe charges of state from liquid to solid and solid to liquid

Equipment:
clean empty soda can - put tape around edge to prevent injury
margarine tub or Tupperware container
plastic sandwich bag
measuring spoon
measuring cup
plastic spoon

Ingredients:
crushed ice 1 cup rock salt 1 tsp. Sugar
1 Tbsp. Sweetened, condensed milk
½ cup milk 1 tsp. of flavoring or ¼ tsp. of extract

Procedure:
Put a thin layer of salt in your container. Place can ( open end up ) on top of
the salt, in the middle of the container. Place the plastic bag over the opening
of the can so salt and ice doesn't get in it. Alternate layers of ice and salt
around the can until the container is full. Remove plastic bag. Put milk, sugar,
condensed milk, and flavoring or extract into can. Stir mixture with spoon,
scraping sides and bottom of can often. Stir until mixture becomes thick (
about 20 - 25 minutes ).

Observation:
What happens to the liquid mixture inside the can?
What happens to the ice, but not the salt, in the container?
