Using the Troop $Buck$ System

Troop Bucks are a troop's special currency, in the form of pretend dollar bills that can be earned in many different ways. At the end of the year, or other designated times,  girls will be able to use the Troop Bucks they have accumulated to buy items from your "store" .

  1. Important considerations before implementing

It is very important that you make sure that using the Troop Buck system is appropriate for your Troop.  Be sure that the incentive actions decided upon are equally attainable for all girls.  Ex.: earning bucks for wearing a uniform might automatically exclude some girls.  So might earning a buck for parent participation.  Consider the individual life circumstances of your Troop members.

  1. Designing the Bucks

Your Troop can design their own bucks, use these pre-designed ones at the right,  or the pre-designed ones from Making Friend's.

  1. Managing the Bucks

Each girl will have an envelope/holder with her name on it in which Troop Bucks are kept.  At the beginning of each meeting pass out the envelopes/holders and award the Troop Bucks as they are earned.. The envelope/holder can remain with the troop leader between meetings or the girls can be responsible for them.  Making Friends also has a fun Bucks Holder your Troop can make!

  1. Cashing in the Bucks

Girls can cash in their Troop Bucks at the end of the year, or any other time(s) your Troop decides on!  The "Store" is filled with small trinkets, gift certificates, and other miscellaneous items that pre-teen girls like. Where do you get the items for your store? The girls might vote to use troop funds, parents may donate items or you might be able to get small items (like gift certificates) donated from an outside source.  Before the girls start to shop, assign "dollar" values to the items!

  1. Ways to earn the Bucks

  • Attending meetings/events

  • Calling the leader if you won’t be coming to meetings/events—call should be made by you!

  • Bringing your dues to meetings

  • Returning permission slips and event fees on time

  • Bringing all materials/work required at the meeting (per instructions previous meeting)

  • Giving a report on a Try-It/Badge you are doing on your own

  • Completing a Try-It/Badge at home

  • Share/teach a new song

  • Share/teach a new craft

  • Random acts of Girl Scout sisterhood; modeling good behavior, being fair, honest, kind, and respectful during meetings/events may be recognized with a buck!

  • Other actions as agreed upon by the troop in advance
